Nathan, AKA Steamroll, an avid angler and kayaker, joined me in the Fall of 2005 for some fishing just outside of San Diego Bay on "The Flats" where a week prior I had much success with sharks, sand bass, and rockfish. We did not have good conditions. I decided to put us on an area that Dark Mark had described as a haven for "huge halibut". Sure enough, within minutes I broke off on a massive flatty. About 15 minutes later, while dead-sticking a 4" white Wham lure on dropshot, Steamroll's rod tip went pointing toward's Davey Jones' Locker with the tell-tale head shakes indicative of a halibut. A battle for sure! I was thrilled to net the beast and take this photograph. We were just outside the mouth of the bay. My boat was very bloody. The fish yielded many steaks - delicious! :tommy:

That spot has always been good to me, so many lost mystery fish in that area.

Nice flatty, but was it really big enough to make your hair stand on end ?
