If you could bring one setup to cabo, what would it be? It's mostly a surf trip, so I have to travel light. We'll be surfing (and maybe fishing) near zippers and up the Pacific side, and maybe a day or two surfcasting on the East Cape. Probably no panga fishing, just casting from shore or surfboards, so I'm leaning toward a spinning reel on 7 foot rod with 12# mono and a box of jigs.
Your thoughts?

8 foot light jig stick, medium heavy, fast action tip, 220 Newell w/ 15 pound Maxima.
Can cast a mile and still land brutes from the surf.
I used a Daiwa procaster with a Samurai spining reel with 12# last trip, had a blast on light line, but lost lots of fish, major zing pow!!!!

i use a 7.5 foot jig stick and a shimano trinidad 14. its a bit shiny and nice for the surf but just keep it outta the sand and mine has lasted for a while now. i use 20lb test. i throw big popper (or other surface action baits) sometimes for roosters. or big 4 inch or bigger swimbaits in the baitfish patterns. another local favorite are crocodiles for sierra, toro, and all the fun other crap down there. if yuo wanted to go lighter ide use a 7 foot med action spinning setup and a baitrunner spinning reel is ideal. if not something comparable. IF YOU CAN BUM LIVE BAIT FROM A LOCAL ITS A GUARANTEEEEED HOOKUP ALL DAY!

Good time of year for roosterfish, but you'd need to be able to cast FAR. You'll have good kicks with what you have though. Throw shiny stuff! Sierras and jacks could make your day...and others will be there to tug. Check out mexfish.com for advice.
