im in the market for a low-pro baitcaster. ive been a "round" baitcast reel guy for years and i havent touched a low-pro reel since the shimano bantam i had when i was about 15.
with that said, i have a nice lonely rod that i think i wanna try slappin' a low-pro on. looking for something i can fish hard, in the salt, with straight 30lb spectra (at least 200 yrds).
whats the best reel for the buck? (i dont mind spending $200 if its a killer unit)

Duane,
Is this gonna be a kelp reel?
If so,
Shimano Curado 300 ($250)
or
Abu Revo Inshore ($229)
The 300 has alittle more capacity and the good reputation of the curado.
The Inshore claims 24 lbs of drag in a 200 size reel.
I say the revo inshore. Get it all day long on ebay new for under $170. Email adam@affordablefishing.com I picked up one a week ago for $177 shipped new with warranty. I think it holds 175yds of 12# mono so you should get your 200yds of 30#.

Duane - I've been really stoked with the 300 DHSV so far...lots of cranking power, comfortable, and it has round reel capacity. I've switched to low pros almost exclusively for bassin', much easier to palm and easier on the hands.

Revos are the shiz. I replaced many of my shimanos with em. If you take care of your gear, you shouldnt have a problem with either

nothing yet. gonna checkout & compare the revo vs. curado 300sv @ the show and make a purchase there.
I have one of the revo inshores and two of the curado 300's. I would say the only thing that the 300 has over the revo is the line capacity. If you can't find anything cheapr at the show I got the curado and the revo for $177 shipped for revo and $186 shipped for the 300 from Adam at affordablefishing.com.

I am with Nate, Shimano Curado 300... I have little to no use for baitcast reels, but I lost mine in SD BAY, and liked it so much that I bought another... Shimano has $50 rebate on them right now... puts them at $200 + tax.... I filled it with #50 spectra.... Gonna be fun for small yellers and dodo's on paddys... :muscles:
