This is just what i heard, I have not rode in one Nor have i fished one.

They are not wide enough, and with the flat stern, the tend to ride alittle rough.

exactly what i was looking to hear and thought when i saw the beam was only 6'

how about the "PANGA FISHING BOATS" brand? their beams are a a tad wider and it looks like their boats are a little better made.

They're really NOT what you want. JMO. They're heavy, give a wet ride and are not that stable.

I don't know what you're looking for or how much you want to spend but I will recommend a line of small skiffs that are by far the best quality and most ruggedly built skiffs built to stand years of abuse. And I mean they can stand massive amounts of abuse.
Two friends of mine (both hold commercial licenses) have used (abused) theirs (V1925 and 2325 series) for years.
Aluminum hulls. All welded and reinforced. Beefy. Dry rides in bad conditions. Very stable platforms. Relatively light for their sizes.

Check out the V1925 series for your application

Carolina Skiffs are awesome and I have a connection with them. When I worked at Hudson Park Bait & Tackle we had a boat rental all our boats were Carolina Skiffs, they are good people the boats can take a beating and are well constructed. They are still relatively light and efficient. They do take a pounding though and personally wouldn't recommend one for SoCal. Our "chase boat" was slightly larger then the rental skiffs and powered sufficiently and if the weather was up at all I would opt to take my personal boat to search for the rentals. Those boats pound constantly.

Eastcoaster, not sure what to make of your post on this. Just the way it was written and puctuated makes it hard for me to decipher what you were trying to get across.

Tommy, I wasn't here in April so I didn't see it then to comment. Pac-skiffs are a little more boat than these guys would ever need but I had to put a plug in for 'em. Pricey, but solid boats.

i didn't notice it was an old thread. just to clarify my point.

for the Long Island Sound in NY where we used those skiffs, they were perfectly suited.

yet for local use here in SD, I would say they are not the right choice in hulls.

I was wondering what the dlx 198 would cost with the 27 gal fuel and a 90 or 115 4 stroke?.that would have a huge range and be cost efficient fuel wise.so far the best bang for the buck that i could find was a19 foot Sea Pro with a 150 4 stroke for under 30 k.super killer hull imho very deep!those carolina skiffs look killer, but if the price was near what i said on the sea pro to me its a no brainer!

again, thanks for all the info here, its all being put into mind for this purchase.... of course, its all gonna come down to our personal pref and needs. regardless, its always good to see what the other salts reccomend and what works for them as well.

now, if i could get off the water or outta work for more than a day or 2 and get ram's to do the same, we might be able to make up our minds
