Fishing at Barrett this year is just so, well, like being around a good looking woman who has a nasty disposition.
The high point of my day was while fishing the tree line in Echo Cove around 1430 hrs I just had to get out of the boat for a time to do something other than to throw countless casts for nothing.
So, while Tom continued to throw more countless and unproductive casts I took off on a little hike to check out a copse of oak trees and a meadow I've always wanted to check out. While I was at the edge of the oak trees a nice 3x3 deer in glorious velvet, who was bedded down at the base of one, got up. We were about 20 yds apart and for the next 20 seconds we just looked at each other. I wanted to take a picture but knew if I moved he would bolt. Finally he just got tired of the encounter and moved off. I followed him up the hill and jumped 2 doe who were bedded down in brush.
3 of us (2 in boat and 1 in 'yak) boated 33 bass and 2 crappie for the day. I had a total of 6 bass for the day. 3 on blades, 2 on brown/orange jigs and a solid 3 lber on my last cast of the day on an old Dalton Special TW plug over the main point that seperates PC from Hauser. Tom boated 16 for the day, mainly useing blades, but he fished like a man possesed by demons. Perhaps I'll ask a Catholic priest to perform an exorcism on him before our next date so I won't have to continually hear about how persistance and hard work pays off.
Mark, in a 'yak, fished the rock wall at the entrance to the long cove off the main lake in the afternoon and he 'yakked 11 LMB with his largest between 4-5 lbs. He fished mainly blk/blu jigs in this area and discovered how the bass wanted it while digging a backlash out of his rig. Since he was getting one here and there along these rocks, after discovering the double top secret presentation, and he didn't get much anywhere else he just stayed with what was working for the remainder of the afternoon.
