Russian River fishing this month?

Spending a few days camping amongst the redwoods later this month.
We are near Occidental and Monte Rio...the river runs by.

Bank fishing for a couple hours on the russian,,,anyone here have some recent experience fishing that area?
I'm thinking SMB,but never targeted them before.
Also,,may have an extra day stashed for a float trip..any personal experiences with a good guide up there?

(i posted similar thread on BD,,some guys responded the river is fucked up this time of year),came here for the real :gothand: truth.

I was just up there in July for the wife's 1/2 Ironman. Her swim was in the Russian, it was SHALLOW! They put in a temp dam to get 6 feet of water for the swim. This part of the river was a little East of where you will be though.

John, you're going to be VERY near a winery you must go check out...Freestone. It's just off the Bohemian Hwy. Talk to my Hein-y about it. His buddy is a rep. The 07 Chard is tasty, their Pinot vines are still a little too young, but you can taste the potential. Their "2nd" label Fog Dog is decent but nothing worth holding on to.

Also, right next to the winery is a place called Wild Floour Bread. It is a KILLER bakery...gotta stop before you camp to have some tasty bread to eat. It's a tiny place that pushes out like 900 loaves a week (open Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon only). Good stuff to be sure.
