Working on the waterfront has its advantages, I can bring a rod to work.
I went to my favorite spot near the Fish Market and was able to land 2 spotties and one pissed off dink Calico. Lots of short bites today. My wife caught a nasty Midshipman on Sunday in the same spot. Once again the hot ticket was the FT brown/blue smelt. On my way back, I saw small bait skittering across the water, I casted in that dierction and SPLASH!! a nice legal halibut chased my swimbait right to the surface..and bolted back down.
It was heartpounding to watch, Not a bad way to spend a lunch break.

nice choice of bait and good to see someone on the water..that blue smelt kills it on the bay/lagoon bass.
keep a smelt jerkbait in yer arsenal..next time a hali is hitting those bait schools you can fish a different part of the water column and fish it s-l-o-w

Shimano Claurus rod 7' MH FAST
Citica Reel 200DPV with 10# mono, a little heavy for the bay, great light tackle set up for Calicos.

Nice way to spend a lunch hour. Do you use that color bait all of the time.
